Aloo Keema Ground Meat with Potatoes

Ingredients
  

Main Curry
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger minced
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 3 medium potatoes peeled and diced
  • 2 medium tomatoes finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 green chilies sliced
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 0.5 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 0.25 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 lemon cut into wedges

Equipment

  • Large skillet or deep pan
  • Wooden spoon

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and cook until fragrant.
  2. Add onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add ground meat and cook until browned completely.
  5. Mix in tomatoes and tomato paste until softened.
  6. Add coriander, turmeric, paprika, garam masala, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Stir in potatoes and green chilies.
  8. Pour in water and simmer covered for 20–25 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  9. Cook uncovered for 5 additional minutes to thicken if needed.
  10. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.

Notes

For extra flavor, use freshly ground spices and allow the curry to simmer slowly. Add peas for additional texture and sweetness.
