Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 1.5 cups light brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 2 cups peeled, diced apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1 tbsp milk for glaze
  • ground cinnamon pinch, for glaze

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk melted butter and brown sugar in a bowl until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla; whisk well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until combined. Stir in diced apples and nuts.
  5. Spread batter into pan and bake for 35–40 minutes until golden. Cool before slicing.
  6. Optional: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and cinnamon to make glaze; drizzle over cooled bars.

Notes

For best flavor, use firm tart apples and don’t overbake. Bars taste even better the next day!
