Arepas con Queso

Ingredients
  

Arepa Dough
  • 2 cups pre-cooked cornmeal arepa flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup queso fresco crumbled

Method
 

  1. Mix warm water and salt in a bowl.
  2. Gradually add cornmeal while stirring to form dough.
  3. Add melted butter and olive oil and knead until smooth.
  4. Fold shredded mozzarella and queso fresco into dough.
  5. Divide dough into balls and flatten into discs.
  6. Heat butter in skillet over medium heat.
  7. Cook arepas 5–6 minutes per side until golden.
  8. Serve warm with melted cheese inside.

Notes

Use mozzarella for stretchier cheese or mix with queso fresco for authentic flavor.
