Ingredients
  

Chocolate Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs large
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
Fudge Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup cocoa powder
  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cup dark chocolate melted
  • 0.33 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk together dry ingredients.
  3. Combine wet ingredients.
  4. Mix wet and dry ingredients together.
  5. Add hot coffee and mix until smooth.
  6. Bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
  7. Prepare fudge frosting by beating butter, cocoa, sugar, cream, and chocolate.
  8. Assemble and frost cake. Chill before serving.

Notes

For deeper flavor, refrigerate overnight before serving.
