Ingredients
  

Caramelized Onions
  • 3 yellow onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar optional
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar optional
Roll Assembly
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 300 g roast beef slices thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mozzarella or Swiss cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise optional
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Method
 

  1. Slow-cook onions in butter and olive oil until deeply caramelized and golden brown.
  2. Roll out puff pastry and spread Dijon mustard evenly across the surface.
  3. Layer roast beef, caramelized onions, and cheese evenly over the dough.
  4. Roll tightly into a log and slice into even portions.
  5. Place slices on baking sheet, brush with egg wash and garlic butter.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes until golden and puffed.
  7. Cool slightly and serve warm with dipping sauces.

Notes

Best served warm. Can be prepped ahead and baked just before serving.
