Ingredients
  

Char Siu Marinade
  • 2 lbs pork tenderloin or pork shoulder strips
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Chinese 5-spice powder
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp red food coloring optional
Basting Sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls

Method
 

  1. Whisk marinade ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Marinate pork for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place pork on a foil-lined baking sheet with a wire rack.
  4. Roast for 20 minutes, then brush with basting sauce.
  5. Cook another 10-15 minutes until caramelized.
  6. Broil 2-3 minutes for charred edges.
  7. Rest 10 minutes, slice thinly, and serve.

Notes

Pork shoulder yields the juiciest results. For extra glaze, brush with reserved marinade after cooking.
