Ingredients
  

Base Layer
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers about 40 crackers
Toffee Layer
  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
Topping
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment and arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly until bubbly and golden.
  3. Pour hot toffee over crackers, spreading evenly. Bake for 5 minutes until caramel is bubbling.
  4. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Let sit for 2 minutes, then spread smoothly with a spatula.
  5. Top with sprinkles, nuts, or candy canes. Cool completely, then refrigerate 1 hour to set. Break into pieces and enjoy.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
