- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then blend in molasses and vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until a smooth batter forms.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 30–35 minutes.
- Cool completely before frosting.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until fluffy.
- Spread frosting over cooled cake, slice, and serve.
