Ingredients
  

Casserole
  • 1 loaf brioche or French bread day-old, cubed
  • 2 cups mixed berries fresh or frozen
  • 6 eggs large
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Add cubed bread to the dish and evenly scatter berries on top.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugars, maple syrup, butter, vanilla, spices, and salt.
  4. Pour custard evenly over bread and gently press to soak.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes until golden and set.
  8. Cool slightly and serve with powdered sugar and syrup.

Notes

Can be made overnight and baked fresh in the morning.
