Cherry Filling
  • 4 cups fresh cherries pitted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. Combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Pour into prepared dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add melted butter, milk, and vanilla; stir until smooth.
  4. Pour topping over cherries and spread gently to cover some of the filling.
  5. Bake 35–40 minutes until topping is golden and cherries are bubbling. Cool 5–10 minutes before serving.
