Chocolate Cupcakes
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup cocoa powder
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp red food coloring
  • 0.5 cup hot brewed coffee
Rose Buttercream
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp rose water
  • 2-3 tbsp cream or milk

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and red food coloring.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, mixing gently.
  6. Stir in hot coffee until batter is smooth.
  7. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full and bake 18–20 minutes.
  8. Beat butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, rose water, and cream until fluffy.
  9. Pipe rose swirls onto cooled cupcakes and garnish as desired.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for a deeper red shade and pipe frosting with a star tip for a rose effect.
