- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Caramelize onions in butter and olive oil for 15–20 minutes.
- Add garlic, sugar, thyme, salt, and pepper; stir well.
- Stir in orzo and let it toast slightly.
- Pour in broth, cream, and Worcestershire; bring to a simmer.
- Transfer to a baking dish if needed, cover with foil, and bake 20 minutes.
- Remove foil, top with cheese, and bake 10–12 minutes more until melty and golden.
- Garnish with thyme and serve warm.
Notes
Use mozzarella for mild flavor or Gruyère for classic French onion taste.
