Ingredients
  

Bread Pudding
  • 6 cups day-old bread cubes
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup raisins optional
Vanilla Sauce
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Place bread cubes evenly in dish.
  3. Whisk eggs, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Add milk, cream, butter, and vanilla; mix well.
  5. Pour custard over bread and press gently.
  6. Bake 45–55 minutes until set and golden.
  7. Simmer sauce ingredients until slightly thickened.
  8. Serve warm with vanilla sauce.

Notes

Use stale bread for best texture. Sauce can be made ahead and reheated.
