  • 4 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • 12 fresh basil leaves
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella pressed into skull-shaped molds
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze or reduction
  • pinch sea salt
  • pinch black pepper

Method
 

  1. Press fresh mozzarella into a skull-shaped silicone mold and refrigerate for 30 minutes before unmolding.
  2. Slice tomatoes and arrange them on a serving platter.
  3. Layer fresh basil leaves over the tomatoes.
  4. Top each stack with a mozzarella skull.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze.
  6. Season lightly with salt and pepper, then serve.

Get creative by adding black olives as 'eyes' or using heirloom tomatoes for a colorful spooky effect.
