  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips optional
  • white decorating icing for spiderweb design

Equipment

  • 8x8-inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Parchment paper
  • Toothpick

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, whisk until combined.
  3. Stir in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until just combined.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely.
  7. Cut brownies into squares.
  8. Use white icing to pipe a spiral on top of each brownie, then drag a toothpick from the center outward to create a spiderweb effect.
  9. Optionally, add small candy spiders for an extra spooky touch.

Notes

For extra richness, replace half the butter with melted chocolate. Decorate just before serving to keep the icing fresh.
