Italian Herb and Cheese Bread

A golden, cheesy loaf infused with Italian herbs. This homemade Italian Herb and Cheese Bread is soft inside, crisp outside, and perfect with pasta, soups, or a simple olive oil dip.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water 110°F/45°C
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped, for garnish
  • 1 tbsp melted butter for brushing

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, stir warm water and sugar. Add yeast and let sit 5–7 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Add yeast mixture and olive oil to dry mix. Stir until dough forms.
  4. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough, knead in mozzarella and Parmesan until spread evenly.
  7. Shape into loaf, place in greased loaf pan, and let rise 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush top with butter and bake 30–35 minutes until golden.
  9. Sprinkle with parsley, let cool 10 minutes, then slice and serve.
