Ingredients
  

Casserole
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 8 eggs large
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 5 cups bread cubes day-old bread preferred
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 red bell pepper diced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp parsley chopped

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned.
  3. Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened.
  4. Whisk eggs, milk, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  5. Spread bread cubes evenly into the baking dish.
  6. Layer sausage mixture and cheeses over the bread cubes.
  7. Pour egg mixture evenly over the casserole and gently press bread into liquid.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  9. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and set.
  10. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, use spicy Italian sausage and freshly shredded cheese. This casserole can be assembled the night before baking.
