Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Cook Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned.
- Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened.
- Whisk eggs, milk, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
- Spread bread cubes evenly into the baking dish.
- Layer sausage mixture and cheeses over the bread cubes.
- Pour egg mixture evenly over the casserole and gently press bread into liquid.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake another 15–20 minutes until golden and set.
- Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, use spicy Italian sausage and freshly shredded cheese. This casserole can be assembled the night before baking.
