Ingredients
  

Beans Base
  • 1 lb kielbasa sausage sliced
  • 6 slices bacon optional
  • 1 large can baked beans
  • 1 can kidney beans drained and rinsed
Flavor Build
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 1 bell pepper chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.5 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Equipment

  • Large skillet or Dutch oven
  • Wooden spoon

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Brown sliced kielbasa, then set aside.
  2. Cook bacon until crisp if using, then remove and crumble, leaving a small amount of fat in the pot.
  3. Sauté onion and bell pepper until soft and slightly caramelized.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir in BBQ sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and chili powder.
  6. Add baked beans and kidney beans, stirring to combine evenly.
  7. Return kielbasa and bacon to the pot and mix gently.
  8. Simmer on low for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Optional: transfer to baking dish and bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes until thick and bubbly.
  10. Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve warm.

Notes

Best served after resting 10 minutes. Flavors deepen overnight.
