Lazy Lasagna with Baked Ravioli

A quick and comforting baked pasta casserole made with ravioli, rich marinara sauce, and layers of melted cheese for an easy lasagna-style dinner.

Ingredients
  

Main Layers
  • 25 oz frozen cheese ravioli
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage optional
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • salt and black pepper to taste
Cheese Layer
  • 1.5 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
Garnish
  • fresh basil leaves
  • extra parmesan cheese

Equipment

  • 9x13 baking dish
  • Skillet

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Cook onion and garlic in olive oil until softened.
  3. Add ground meat if using and cook until browned. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer.
  4. Mix ricotta, egg, parsley, and salt in a bowl until smooth.
  5. Layer sauce, ravioli, ricotta mixture, and cheese in baking dish.
  6. Repeat layers, finishing with sauce and mozzarella/parmesan on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes, then uncover and bake 10–15 minutes until bubbly.
  8. Let rest 10 minutes, garnish with basil, and serve warm.

Notes

Using frozen ravioli gives best structure. Letting the casserole rest ensures clean slices.
