Ingredients

Chicken & Vegetables
  • 1 lb chicken breast thinly sliced
  • 1 bunch asparagus trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 lemon zested and juiced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil for cooking
  • for garnish sesame seeds
  • for garnish scallions chopped
  • for serving jasmine rice or noodles
Sauce
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 0.5 tsp chili flakes optional

Equipment

  • Wok or large skillet
  • Spatula or wooden spoon
  • Mixing bowls
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients Before you start cooking, get everything ready. Slice the chicken, trim the asparagus, mince the garlic, grate the ginger, and zest the lemon. Stir-frying moves fast, so having everything prepped in advance is key.
  2. Step 2: Make the Sauce In a small bowl, whisk together: 3 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon cornstarch ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional) This mixture will thicken slightly in the pan, coating each piece of chicken and asparagus in a shiny, flavorful glaze.
  3. Step 3: Sear the Chicken Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken and spread it out in a single layer. Let it sear for about 2–3 minutes before stirring—this ensures golden, flavorful edges. Cook until just done, about 5–6 minutes in total. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  4. Step 4: Stir-Fry the Asparagus In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed. Toss in the asparagus and cook for 2–3 minutes until it turns bright green and crisp-tender. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring constantly for 30 seconds to release their aroma.
  5. Step 5: Combine and Sauce Return the chicken to the pan, pour in the sauce, and toss everything together. The sauce will bubble and thicken, coating each piece beautifully. Add lemon zest for a final burst of freshness.
  6. Step 6: Garnish and Serve Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions. Serve it hot over jasmine rice, quinoa, or noodles.
