Ingredients
  

French Toast Custard
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk whole or 2%
  • 0.25 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
Bagels
  • 4 bagels plain or cinnamon raisin, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter for pan
For Serving
  • maple syrup for drizzling
  • powdered sugar for dusting
  • fresh berries optional

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt butter.
  3. Dip bagel halves into custard for 10–15 seconds per side.
  4. Cook bagels on skillet 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  5. Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and berries.

Notes

Use day-old bagels for best texture. Adjust sweetness to taste with more or less maple syrup.
