- Whisk sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan. Slowly add milk and egg yolks.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
- Layer wafers, bananas, and custard in a dish.
- Repeat layers and finish with custard.
- Whip cream with powdered sugar and spread on top.
- Chill at least 4 hours before serving.
