Ingredients

Main
  • 12 oz smoked sausage sliced into rounds
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1.5 cups penne pasta uncooked
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.75 cup honey BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 0.5 tsp crushed red pepper flakes adjust to taste
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese shredded
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add chicken broth, water, BBQ sauce, honey, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
  4. Add uncooked pasta, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cover and cook 12–14 minutes until pasta is tender.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan until the sauce is creamy. Return sausage to skillet and toss to coat.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, garnish with parsley, and serve hot.

Notes

For extra heat, add more crushed red pepper or a splash of hot sauce. For a thicker sauce, simmer uncovered for 2–3 minutes after adding cream.
