  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chopped
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 orange zest zest of 1 orange
  • optional pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg
  • whipped cream for topping
  • chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat milk and heavy cream over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in cocoa powder and sugar until dissolved.
  3. Add chopped dark chocolate and stir until melted and smooth.
  4. Stir in orange zest, vanilla extract, and optional spices.
  5. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently.
  6. Pour into mugs. Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and extra orange zest.
  7. Serve immediately while warm and aromatic.

Notes

Grate orange zest just before adding for maximum flavor. Stir frequently when reheating to maintain smooth texture.
