- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter. Arrange bread slices in the dish.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Pour custard over bread, pressing gently to soak evenly.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight (8–12 hours).
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered 40–45 minutes until golden and set.
- Sprinkle granulated sugar on top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under broiler.
- Cool 5 minutes, then serve with berries, whipped cream, or maple syrup.
Notes
Overnight soaking ensures creamy French toast. Use a torch for best caramelization.
