Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread cut into 1-inch slices
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for topping
  • Optional toppings fresh berries, whipped cream, maple syrup

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter. Arrange bread slices in the dish.
  2. Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour custard over bread, pressing gently to soak evenly.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight (8–12 hours).
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered 40–45 minutes until golden and set.
  6. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top and caramelize with a kitchen torch or under broiler.
  7. Cool 5 minutes, then serve with berries, whipped cream, or maple syrup.

Notes

Overnight soaking ensures creamy French toast. Use a torch for best caramelization.
