Ingredients
  

Cake Layers
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 4 eggs large
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Pecan Pie Filling
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.33 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups toasted pecans chopped
Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare three 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk together dry ingredients.
  3. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla.
  5. Alternate dry ingredients and buttermilk into batter.
  6. Divide batter and bake 24–28 minutes.
  7. Prepare pecan filling and cool.
  8. Make frosting until smooth and fluffy.
  9. Assemble cake layers with filling between each layer.
  10. Frost cake and garnish with pecans.

Notes

Toast pecans before using for maximum flavor and texture.
