Flaky Puerto Rican pastries filled with sweet cream cheese and finished with a glossy honey glaze.

Ingredients
  

Pastry
  • 2 sheets puff pastry thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tbsp water for egg wash
Honey Glaze
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp warm water
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar optional garnish

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  3. Cut puff pastry sheets into equal rectangles.
  4. Place cream cheese filling in the center of each pastry rectangle.
  5. Fold or roll pastries and place seam-side down on baking sheet.
  6. Brush pastries with egg wash.
  7. Bake 18–22 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  8. Mix honey and warm water to create glaze.
  9. Brush warm quesitos with honey glaze and cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add guava paste to the filling before baking.
