Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 0.75 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Optional Cream Cheese Filling
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugars until fluffy.
  4. Add egg, egg yolk, milk, vanilla, and red coloring. Mix well.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients and fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Roll dough, cut heart shapes, and place on baking sheets.
  7. Bake 10–12 minutes. Cool completely.
  8. Prepare filling if desired and assemble cookies.

Notes

Chill dough for 30 minutes for best shape retention. Store in airtight container up to 4 days.
