Ingredients

Sauce
  • 2 cups blackberries fresh or frozen
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water for slurry

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Whisk

Method

  1. Combine blackberries, sugar, and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until berries soften and release juices.
  3. Stir in lemon juice.
  4. Whisk cornstarch with water to create a slurry.
  5. Pour slurry into the saucepan while stirring continuously.
  6. Cook 1–2 minutes until sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  8. Strain sauce if desired for a smoother texture.

Notes

For a thinner sauce, reduce the cornstarch slightly. For extra smooth texture, blend before straining.
