Sloppy Joe Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
Topping
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp parsley chopped for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook onion and bell pepper until softened.
  3. Add garlic and cook briefly until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  5. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer mixture for 8–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Spread beef mixture evenly into prepared casserole dish.
  8. Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  9. Arrange biscuit dough pieces evenly across the top.
  10. Bake for 18–22 minutes until biscuits are golden brown.
  11. Top casserole with remaining cheddar cheese and bake an additional 3–5 minutes until melted.
  12. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, add crispy bacon or diced jalapeños. This casserole freezes well and reheats beautifully for quick family dinners.
