Method
- Heat oil in a skillet and sauté onions, celery, carrots, and garlic until softened.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook briefly to deepen flavor.
- Transfer mixture to slow cooker and add crushed tomatoes, broth, milk, herbs, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
- Cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours.
- Remove bay leaf, stir, adjust seasoning, and serve.
Notes
For extra richness, add 1/2 cup red wine during sautéing. Sauce freezes very well.
