Soft & Fluffy Old-Fashioned Yeast Rolls

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 1/4 tsp
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup warm milk 110°F / 43°C
  • 1 egg large
  • extra melted butter for brushing

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Stand mixer or hands for kneading

Method
 

  1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter. Mix until sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead dough 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough, divide into 12–16 pieces. Shape into balls and place on prepared baking sheet.
  6. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Brush rolls with melted butter. Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Brush additional butter after baking. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use warm milk to activate yeast. Avoid overbaking for soft, fluffy rolls.
