Method
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15–20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
- Cook ground beef in a large skillet until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, garlic, and carrots to beef. Cook until softened. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
- Add peas and corn, simmer 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Transfer beef mixture to baking dish. Spread mashed potatoes evenly on top. Sprinkle with cheese if desired.
- Bake 20–25 minutes until top is golden and slightly crispy. Let cool 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Substitute ground lamb for traditional shepherd’s pie. Adjust spices to taste. Assemble ahead of time and refrigerate until baking for convenience.
